The subject matter(s) of my work come from a variety of stimuli and sources, but all can be traced back to my fundamental interest in mapping. I believe mapping reflects some of our most primal human desires - curiosity, discovery, tracking, exploration - seeking to discover where we are and where we come from in the hope this will give us an insight into who we are.

Many of the source materials for the work I make come from my own life, but in the last few years I have become more and more interested in the connections between people and place.

I produce work on various scales, in two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms, using a vast array of media, materials and techniques. I am as likely to be found eroding my paintings with power tools as I am producing careful drawings. I continue to experiment in the studio, and allow the decisions about how I make my work and what work I make to be influenced by the source materials I am using and the subject(s) I am focussing on.

I draw great inspiration from the works of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Mark Bradford, but am as influenced by my own emotional and mental states and the world around me as I am by the work of other artists.

Although I work in relatively traditional mediums – primarily painting and drawing – I enjoy challenging how they are used, pushing their boundaries and hopefully changing how they are viewed within our contemporary media-scape.
